Brecht
borrowed his characters from the same source as Guys and Dolls' Frank
Loesser: Damon Runyon. This ironic collision of the world of hoodlums
and the world of Salvation Army crusaders requires two major sets, some
phases and wonderful characters. I did set and costume design for this
production, including designing the "citizens of Chicago",
stuffed canvas dummies that were saved souls in the Salvation Army and
regulars in the bar. The company was small, numbering a total of eight,
and I didnt think it was out of the spirit of the presentational
style of Brecht.
Happy
End,
